March 23 - April 23 2018
Scripture teaches us that Elders are the overseers of the church (Acts 20:28-31; 1 Peter 5:1-3; Hebrews 13:17). This month The Crossing continues the important work of selecting Elders who will serve as the leaders of this church. Being an Elder is a tremendous responsibility. The type of men needed are not ones who desire great honor, power, or popularity, but who like Christ, are “servant-leaders.”
The church by-laws state that those who are selected as Elders can serve for a three (3) year term. They are required to take a “sabbatical” year off after serving 2 consecutive terms.
Other by-laws specifics include:
- The number of Elders are to be no more than 12
- No Elder may be employed by the church, with the exception of the Senior Pastor.
Below you will find a link to the online nomination form. Please take the time to work through it. If you know of someone you feel led to nominate because of their scriptural qualifications and leadership ability, please complete the ballot no later than Monday, April 23. Nominate only people who, to the best of your knowledge, meet the scriptural qualifications as stated below and demonstrate a passionate heartbeat for this ministry.
All names submitted will be reviewed by the Elders. Interviews and informational meetings will be held with every qualified candidate. A final list of potential Elders will be presented to the congregation. The congregation will have two weeks to present in writing, to the current board of Elders, any scriptural reasons they are aware of that a proposed leader should not serve. Affirmation and ordination of any new Elders will take place in August 2018.
Please pray about this process and the decisions that need to be made as this is a vital aspect of this church.
