Jonah 1:17 (NIV) Now the Lord provided a huge fish to swallow Jonah, and
Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

Jonah 2:1 (NIV) From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God.
It’s not being at the bottom that changed Jonah,
It’s praying at the bottom that changed Jonah.

Jonah 2:2a (NIV) He said: “In my distress I called to the Lord
Jonah 2:2 (NIV) He said: “In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered
me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my
cry.
Jonah 2:3 (NIV) You hurled me into the depths, into the very heart of the seas,
and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me.

Jonah 2:4-7 (NIV) I said, ‘I have been banished from your sight;
yet I will look again toward your holy temple.’ 5  The engulfing waters threatened
me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head. 6  To the
roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But
you, Lord my God, brought my life up from the pit. 7  “When my life was ebbing
away, I remembered you, Lord, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple.

Jonah 2:8 (NIV) Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God’s love for
them.

“An idol is a good thing that we have turned into a god-thing that
ultimately becomes a bad thing.”

 - Rich Villodas

Jonah 2:9 (NIV) But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you. What I
have vowed I will make good. I will say, ‘Salvation comes from the Lord.’”

Jonah 2:10 (NIV) And the Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto
dry land.

The pathway to change is through prayer that leads to repentance and
reconciliation.

Repentance is turning away from whatever has led you away from God

Romans 2:4b (NIV) God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance

2 Corinthians 7:10 (NIV) Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation
and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.
The pathway to change is through prayer that leads to repentance and
reconciliation.

2 Corinthians 5:18-19 (NIV) All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself
through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19  that God was
reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against
them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.
