No Longer on the Outside!
Matthew 2:11 NIV On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
Gold: Royalty, Divine, King
Frankincense: Priestly, Spiritual Authority
Myrrh: Burial, Death, Sorrow
Suffering
Isaiah 53:5-7 NIV
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
each of us has turned to our own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed and afflicted,
yet he did not open his mouth;
he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,
and as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.
Jesus Invites You to Suffer Well
Isaiah 53:3 NIV “He was despised and rejected by mankind,
a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.”
John 16:33 NIV 33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
The question in life is not will you suffer, but who will you be when you suffer?
How do I suffer well?
Look for God
Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Suffer with a Purpose
Mark 15:22-24 NIV 22They brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”). 23Then they offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it. 24And they crucified him. Dividing up his clothes, they cast lots to see what each would get.
