I’m Hopeful
Romans 8:18 (NIV) I consider that our present sufferings are not worth
comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.
future glory > present sufferings
1.THE PERSPECTIVE OF PAIN
Romans 5:3-4 (NIV) Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we
know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and
character, hope.
Romans 8:19 (NIV) For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of
God to be revealed.
Romans 8:22 (NIV) We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the
pains of childbirth right up to the present time.
1.THE PERSPECTIVE OF PAIN
2.THE PRESENCE OF THE SPIRIT
Romans 8:23 (NIV) Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the
Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the
redemption of our bodies.
Romans 8:24-25 (NIV) For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no
hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? 25 But if we hope for what we do
not yet have, we wait for it patiently.
Romans 8:26-27 (NIV) In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We
do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for
us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind
of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with
the will of God.
Hope is anchored in God’s promises, not life’s circumstances.
1.Don’t interpret God’s love through today’s pain.
2.Don’t mistake silence for absence.
3.Don’t lose hope in the waiting.
Romans 8:18 (NIV) I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing
with the glory that will be revealed in us.
